The Public Home Bar

Designed as a home away from home in the heart of Sandton, the space tells the story of gathering, familiarity, and craft. The client envisioned a public bar that carried the warmth and intimacy of a personal home bar — a place where people could feel instantly connected and comfortable. At the centre of the space, the bar counter becomes both a functional element and a narrative piece, handcrafted from recycled wine boxes collected over time. Their worn textures, markings, and imperfections bring history into the design, layering the space with character and creating an atmosphere that feels lived-in, honest, and deeply personal.
